1939 年 8 月改編成電影的《綠野仙蹤 The Wizard of Oz》
小女孩桃樂絲 Dorathy 與小狗托托住在堪薩斯州叔叔嬸嬸的農場裡
為了不讓托托被壞鄰居帶走，桃樂絲帶著托托離家出走，後悔返家時
遇到龍捲風把她們吹到神祕世界的矮人國裡，一路上認識了三個伙伴：
沒有膽子的獅子、沒頭腦的稻草人、沒有心的錫兵再加上主人翁
沒有路可回家的桃樂絲與小狗托托，他們同心協力一起度過種種困難

本片雖然也被提名奧斯卡最佳影片卻敗北，因為當年實力超強的大片
亂世佳人 Gone with the Wind 囊括了 8 個獎項，包括最佳影片
最後《綠野仙蹤》只獲得奧斯卡最佳最佳原創配樂及最佳歌曲獎
電影《綠野仙踪》的其中一支歌曲就是 Over the Rainbow 飛越彩虹
這部童話歌舞片及這首歌曲的正能量撫慰了正值二次世界大戰時的人心
尤其是那句：the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
這首歌曲由飾演戲中主角桃樂絲 Dorothy 的女影星Judy Garland演繹
也成為 1969 年早逝的 Judy 歌手生涯的代表作。

2013 年在本片上映75週年，華納公司推出其 IMAX 3D 修復紀念版
在美國重新上映當周，居然在爛番茄網站上的新鮮度達到驚人的 99%
當然 Over the Rainbow 這首歌曲也被許多知名的歌手不斷地演繹
例如：Celine Dion 以及 2004 年華人歌手張韶涵也曾翻唱過
